Desire is the driving force of every spiritual progress in Kabbalah. One, who is on higher levels of Torah desires more. One who is on a higher stage, his evil urge is also incomparable bigger. Our goal is it to begin to use all our desires in order to bring contentment upon our Maker. This force of the right use of desire is called Masach, which one could translate as screen or curtain. This curtain blocks the light from entering our coarsest part of the will to receive, which only wants to receive for it alone. The Masach reflects the light. This reflected light, called the 'Or Chozer' becomes a new vessel for the reception of the light of the Creator.
There are generally two lights, the Or Chochmah and the Or Chasadim. The Or Chochmah (light of wisdom) contains all the pleasure the Creator wants to bestow upon us. But to be able to receive the Or Chochmah we also need the Or Chasadim (light of mercy). This light we earn through good deeds of sharing in our world. That's why I also must connect to a study group of like-minded people, because only through learning to feel the desires of others, I'll be able to receive Or Chasadim, before I can receive the Or Chochmah, which is all the abundance, the Creator has prepared for us.
According to Kabbalah we don't suffer, because we have too big desires, but because our desires are too small. Through attracting the light, that is surrounding us through the study of the authentic books of an authentic lineage of Kabbalah, we gradually increase our vessel, and we will gain desires, we have never dreamed about before. One who studies Kabbalah wants not only to absorb everything from this world, but all the other worlds as well.
