The world has suffered enough from people who seek constant change; rather, we should find the unchanging pole in us.
The Bible states, "I, the Lord, do not change" (Malachi 3:6). It is a kabbalistic teaching that states that the light is unchanging, always shining; only we, the vessels, are really changing. The bigger the vessel, the bigger the light that is to be received. One who is on higher levels of wisdom desires more. We yearn for higher states of consciousness and their manifold blessings they are about to bring. But behind all those states of ups and downs, ascent and descent, there's the one unchanging pole, the witness itself, which is beyond all changes.
This observer has always been the same. "Before Abraham was born, I am" (John 8:58). This state of mere consciousness lies beyond thought and form; it is pure witness consciousness. That's why all the mystical pathways emphasize how important it is to go beyond thought. Because when I've once gained a taste of how the world feels beyond any self-identification and upcoming ripples of thoughts, I can always withdraw myself into this non-dual state of being. That, what is beyond thought, beyond change, is God. 'I am' - I am the mere witness himself. And as long as this state is not realized, the bondages of body and mind are just overwhelming. One who has gone beyond thought will realize his own immortality. Everything is in change, just not the observer, the witness himself.
